She was one of the figureheads back then who protested against the existence of military rule existing in Myanmar. After about two decades of arrest, she still isn’t giving up on ensuring that her people have a taste of what real freedom is all about. She is known as the chairperson for the popular National League for Democracy.

3 Jeannette Rankin

Jeannette Rankin was born in June 1880. She was the first woman to get elected into the House of Representatives in the United States. She became very popular back then as an advocate for women rights. Also, she got known for the role played in the process of developing the 19th Constitutional Amendment. This was how American women were given the rights to vote. She died in 1973.

4 Shirley Chisholm

She was born in the year 1924 and died in 2005. Shirley Chisholm deserves to be referred to as one of the politicians that positively changed the world. She happened to be the first black woman to get elected into the US Congress. This is no mean feat to achieve given the way that blacks were treated back then.

5 Indira Gandhi

Indira Gandhi is the only prime minister that India has ever had. She wasn’t just a politician but also a central figure. She was born in the year 1917 and got assassinated in 1984 by her bodyguards. Some of her major achievements are nationalizing about 14 banks, the introduction of Hindi as the country’s national language and privy purses abolition.

6 Nelson Mandela

The list of the politicians who have been impactful to the world wouldn’t be complete without a personality such as Nelson Mandela. He was the leader or brain behind the anti-apartheid movement in South Africa.  He was the first black man to be elected democratically in the country. It was under her leadership that the Iranian Embassy crisis was successfully handled. Through privatization, the free market economy came into existence in the UK when she was in office. Present world leaders are tailoring their economies after such a development.

8 Barbara Jordan

Barbara Jordan was a lawyer by profession, but as time went on, she dabbled into politics. She was the first black woman from the south who got elected into the House of Reps in the US. She got notable for winning the Presidential Medal of Freedom in the year 1994. This is the award which is most valuable in the US. This is a pointer to the fact that she was indeed an esteemed politician.

9 Madeleine Albright

Madeleine Albright became the first woman to occupy the office of the secretary of state of the United States. She was a politician who was determined to make a difference in the lives of the people. In the year 2012, Albright won the Presidential Medal of Freedom. She joined the American Academy of Arts and Sciences elected fellows in the year 2001. She won the award for Glamour Woman of The Year in 1995.

10 Hillary Clinton

She might have lost out in the race to become president of United States in 2016, but there is no doubt that she is following in the footsteps of her husband (Bill Clinton) who happened to be a successful politician. One of the issues that got her very popular back then was how she was able to spearhead the Violence Against Women Act in the year 1994. There was also the Foster Care Independence Act which she led in 1999. Finally, she played a major role in the achievement of complete military benefits.
