The Brazilian Jewish population can be mainly found in the cities of Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. The first Jewish population arrived in Brazil was in the 16th century during the Inquisition in Spain and Portugal. Later Jews who fled from Europe, headed to Brazil as it was away from the Nazis’ reach. Furthermore, Jews who used to live in Russia and felt threatened after the Russian revolution emerged in the 19th century fled to Brazil as well.

9 Australia [113,000]

The population of the Australian Jews is nearly 113,000, rendering it the 9th largest Jewish population. Australian Jews mainly live in the cities of Melbourne, Sydney, and other cosmopolitan areas of Australia that curdles different identities. We all know that Australia was a place for immigrants from Europe, or to be specific from England who arrived in the continent in the 19th century. Likewise, Jews arrived in Australia at the same period.

8 Germany [118,000]

Germany curdles around 118,000 Jews. It has a long frosty history with the Jews. Back then, during World War II, Germany was not a remotely safe place for the Jews. They were not welcomed in there, especially, when Adolf Hitler and the Nazis were in authority. Most Jews fled from Germany because of the Nazi regime. Jews returned to Germany in the late twentieth century; however, their number was quite small. Jews history in Germany is quite important and rich, so if you want to learn more about it, read Anna Fank’s Diaries. She was a German teenage girl who fled from Germany and sneaked to Netherlands.

7 Argentina [182,000]

When mentioning Jews of Latin America, Argentian would pop up in your mind. As it is widely known, Latin America is not crowded with Jews as North America, Europe or Israel. However, Argentine has a considerable number of Jews. Argentina cradle around 182,000 Argentine Jews, the largest population in Latin America. Jewish people first arrived in Argentina in the 16th century after persecution during Spanish Inquisition. Argentine Jews can mainly be found in Buenos Aires, Cordoba, Santa Fe, Entre Rios and Tucumán regions. Jewish groups in Argentina comprise Ashkenazi, Sephardic and Mizrahi Jews.

6 Russia [190,000]

Russia was once traditionally a sanctuary that embarked and accommodated a large Jewish population, even though the many members of the Jewish community in Russia did not survive or receive all their rights due to anti-Semitism and persecution that extended to cover the country; as a result, many Jewish citizens fled to their own holy land, Israel, during the eighties and nineties. Despite all that, Russia has a Jewish population that reaches 190,000, rendering it on the third place among other European nations.

5 United Kingdom [290,000]

Here it is! The fifth largest country with a Jewish population in the world and it is also the second largest country with a Jewish population in Europe, after France of course, with a population of 290,000. The Jews first arrived in the United Kingdom in 1070 and were banned from the country for the following 200 years. The British authorities passed resettlement on Jews in England in the 19th century.

4 Canada [380,000]

Canada is the fourth largest country with Jews population. It holds such position with a Jewish population of 380,000. Most Canadian Jews mainly reside in Ontario, Quebec, British Columbia, Manitoba, and Alberta. Canada is privileged with a pool of diverse doctrines of the Jewish faith, as Candian Jews of the Ashkenazi, Sephardi and Mizrahi background are welcomed there. The first Jews to arrive in Canada were mainly of British origins who served in the British army. These Jews who immigrated to Canada fled from the atrocious anti-Sematic crimes practiced against them, that overwhelmed Europe.

3 France [478,000]

Aside from Israel and the United States, France has the most Jewish population in all Europe with around 480,000 Jews who originally live or reside in Paris, Marseille, Lyon, Strasbourg and Toulouse regions. French Jews were subjected to all hate crimes and violent acts practiced against them in Europe and were affected by anti-Semitic practices. However, most French Jews survived the Holocaust. Moreover, the reason behind millions of Jews immigrating to France is that the swarms of Jews who resided in colonies of the Mediterranean and North Africa fled from their countries and immigrated to France, the country that was colonizing their lands in the 19th century. The Sephardi, the Jewish population who originated from North Africa, and Mizrahi Jews, Jewish populations who came from Iraq, Syria, Bahrain, Kuwait, Dagestan, Azerbaijan, Iran, Uzbekistan, the Caucasus, Kurdistan, Afghanistan, India, Pakistan, and Yemen, are the majority.

2 United States [5,425,000]

The United States is world’s second largest country with Jewish population following Israel with a population of 5,425,000 Jews. The fact that the United States of America has millions of Jews in its land lies behind that during World War II, the majority of the Jews who resided in European countries fled to America because they faced religious discrimination, so America was the ultimate suitable place so they can practice their religion-related rituals freely and express themselves without facing the hate crimes they witnessed back in Europe in the twentieth century. The Ashkenazi makes up the largest Jewish population in the United Staes with around 90%; they are the Jewish diaspora population that originates or comes from the Jews who settled along the Rhine River that lies in Western Germany and Northern France.

1 Israel [6,014,000]

Of course! What country would have the most Jewish population in the world if it were not Israel? The country was declared in May 1948 and it is mainly based on Jewish population that left their countries and headed or immigrated into the new land. In fact, Israeli Jews make up around 75% of the population at 6,014,000 Jews, so it has the largest Jewish population in the whole wide world. The purpose of establishing Israel in the Palestinian lands is to have a land that contains all the Jews in the world as the Jewish faith says. However, the country has Muslims and Arab as well as it was based on Palestinians territories.
